Make It Safe

Leicestershire Blinds fully comply with the child safety standards for internal blinds which were published by the British Standards Institution on the 28th February 2014.

The standards regarding the manufacture, supply and professional installation of internal window blinds have changed significantly since 2014. It is now illegal to supply and professionally install an internal window blind which does not comply with the child safety requirements of BS EN 13120:2009+A1:2014.

The new standards are applicable to all homes, public buildings and any premises where babies and young children may be present.

When contemplating new blinds, make sure you consider blinds which are "safe by design" first. These style of window blinds use no operating cords or chains, If cords are used to operate the blind they are held under tension or are consealed in the system of the blind.

There are "safe by design" versions of every blind style from blinds that can be cotrolled by wands to push and pull the blind into position, or even motorised blinds which are activated by a battery motor. If you do prefer to have either a chain or a cord operated blind then the blinds will be fitted with a safety device and chains and cords will be restricted lengths to comply safety regulations.
